Today recruits got a close up look at an emergency medical helicopter at Mayor’s Park. The flight crew from LifeNet explained the role of a medical helicopter and the Junior Firefighters got to go on-board, sit in the pilot’s seat and get a closeup view of the take-off and landing . Recruits were also given detailed lectures on the Cold Spring firetrucks and equipment, walking around and getting a feel for the location and use of all of the tools. Lastly, the recruits were educated as to the different types of rescues a fire company may go out on. (i.e. structure fires, car accidents, river rescues, mountain rescues).
The Cold Spring Fire Company in connection with the Town of Philipstown Recreation Department will be holding their 9th Annual Junior Firefighter Academy this week. Classes begin at 9am each day and end at 3pm. So if you see a line of new recruits doing pushups on St. Mary’s lawn, or jogging up Main Street – honk your horn or give a wave!
