PHILIPSTOWN — One driver was flown to Westchester Medical Center and the busy intersection of Routes 9 and 301 was closed for hours following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.
Preliminary reports indicate that four vehicles, including a six-wheel box truck, were involved in the midday crash, which shut down the major intersection in western Putnam County while sheriff’s deputies investigated.
Capt. William McNamara said each of the four vehicles was occupied by only the driver. One of them, an unidentified man, was taken by helicopter to the Valhalla hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. No one else was injured.
The intersection reopened before 4 p.m. It was not clear late Wednesday afternoon what caused the collision.
While Route 9 was closed, traffic was detoured through Cold Spring via Travis Corners and Fishkill roads.
In addition to sheriff’s officers, responders included state troopers, state park police, Cold Spring police and firefighters, North Highlands firefighters, the Philipstown Ambulance Corps, and the Putnam HazMat team and fire police.
